Therefore, it is important to know what these normal limits are. Body temperature naturally fluctuates throughout the day, with the lowest temperatures occurring in the early morning and the highest in the late afternoon. Generally, the normal temperature range for children under 12 years, depending on the measurement method, is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"493\" data-end=\"695\">\n<li data-start=\"493\" data-end=\"520\"><strong data-start=\"495\" data-end=\"506\">Rectal:<\/strong> 36.5-37.9\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"546\"><strong data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"532\">Oral:<\/strong> 35.5-37.5\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"585\"><strong data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"571\">Axillary\/Forehead:<\/strong> 35.5-37.1\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"586\" data-end=\"610\"><strong data-start=\"588\" data-end=\"596\">Ear:<\/strong> 36.1-37.8\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"611\" data-end=\"695\">In infants, a temperature slightly higher than these ranges may still be normal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"1144\">Fever is <strong data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"723\">not a disease<\/strong> but a <strong data-start=\"730\" data-end=\"741\">symptom<\/strong>\u2014an indication that the body is fighting an infection. It is a positive sign that the immune system is activated. Fever <strong data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"903\">triggers the body&#8217;s defense mechanisms<\/strong>, such as activating white blood cells to attack the &#8220;invader.&#8221; Therefore, fever is <strong data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"997\">useful<\/strong>, but it can make a child feel unwell. During fever, a child may experience <strong data-start=\"1073\" data-end=\"1141\">rapid heartbeat, fast breathing, headaches, and increased thirst<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1146\" data-end=\"1316\">However, there are other causes of fever besides infection, such as <strong data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1313\">medications, injuries, toxins, exposure to extreme temperatures, or excessive physical activity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1318\" data-end=\"1321\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1323\" data-end=\"1372\"><strong data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1370\">How to Measure Your Child\u2019s Temperature<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1542\">Mercury thermometers are no longer used. <strong data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1444\">Only digital thermometers<\/strong> should be used. Choose one of the following methods and always use the appropriate thermometer:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1924\">\n<li data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1924\"><strong data-start=\"1546\" data-end=\"1590\">Rectal (for children under 3 years old):<\/strong>\n<ul data-start=\"1595\" data-end=\"1924\">\n<li data-start=\"1595\" data-end=\"1656\">Clean the thermometer tip with soap and water or alcohol.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1659\" data-end=\"1700\">Apply a little gel or oil to the tip.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1703\" data-end=\"1755\">Place the baby on their stomach across your lap.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1867\">Turn on the thermometer and insert <strong data-start=\"1795\" data-end=\"1803\">1 cm<\/strong> for infants under 6 months and <strong data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"1847\">1.5-2 cm<\/strong> for older babies.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1924\">Hold the thermometer firmly for at least 1 minute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"2011\">(<em data-start=\"1927\" data-end=\"2008\">Some pediatric organizations worldwide do not recommend this method at any age.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2835\">\n<li data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2356\">\n<p data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2059\"><strong data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2057\">Oral (for children 4 years and older):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2062\" data-end=\"2356\">\n<li data-start=\"2062\" data-end=\"2123\">Clean the thermometer tip with soap and water or alcohol.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2194\">Place the thermometer <strong data-start=\"2150\" data-end=\"2170\">under the tongue<\/strong> and towards the back.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2197\" data-end=\"2271\">Tell the child to <strong data-start=\"2217\" data-end=\"2237\">close their lips<\/strong> without biting the thermometer.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2356\">For accuracy, wait at least <strong data-start=\"2304\" data-end=\"2318\">15 minutes<\/strong> after drinking hot or cold liquids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2358\" data-end=\"2520\">\n<p data-start=\"2360\" data-end=\"2403\"><strong data-start=\"2360\" data-end=\"2401\">Ear (for children over 6 months old):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2406\" data-end=\"2520\">\n<li data-start=\"2406\" data-end=\"2471\">Insert the thermometer tip into the ear canal and turn it on.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2474\" data-end=\"2520\">The result usually appears within seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2522\" data-end=\"2729\">\n<p data-start=\"2524\" data-end=\"2593\"><strong data-start=\"2524\" data-end=\"2591\">Axillary (for all ages, mostly for children over 3 months old):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2596\" data-end=\"2729\">\n<li data-start=\"2596\" data-end=\"2659\">Place an <strong data-start=\"2607\" data-end=\"2637\">oral or rectal thermometer<\/strong> under a dry armpit.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2662\" data-end=\"2729\">Press the arm against the chest and wait for at least 1 minute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2731\" data-end=\"2835\">\n<p data-start=\"2733\" data-end=\"2763\"><strong data-start=\"2733\" data-end=\"2761\">Forehead (for all ages):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2835\">\n<li data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"2835\">Follow the <strong data-start=\"2779\" data-end=\"2810\">manufacturer&#8217;s instructions<\/strong> for accurate readings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"2837\" data-end=\"2840\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2842\" data-end=\"2889\"><strong data-start=\"2846\" data-end=\"2887\">Call Your Pediatrician If Your Child:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"2890\" data-end=\"3680\">\n<li data-start=\"2890\" data-end=\"2982\">Appears <strong data-start=\"2900\" data-end=\"2958\">very sick, lethargic, excessively sleepy, or irritable<\/strong> (especially infants).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2983\" data-end=\"3046\">Was in an extremely <strong data-start=\"3005\" data-end=\"3024\">hot environment<\/strong> (e.g., closed car).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3047\" data-end=\"3214\">Has <strong data-start=\"3053\" data-end=\"3083\">additional severe symptoms<\/strong> such as <strong data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3211\">stiff neck, severe headache, persistent sore throat, intense ear pain, unusual rash, repeated vomiting, or diarrhea<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3215\" data-end=\"3304\">Has a condition that <strong data-start=\"3238\" data-end=\"3257\">lowers immunity<\/strong> (e.g., <strong data-start=\"3265\" data-end=\"3300\">sickle cell anemia, steroid use<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3305\" data-end=\"3326\">Has <strong data-start=\"3311\" data-end=\"3323\">seizures<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3327\" data-end=\"3364\">Is <strong data-start=\"3332\" data-end=\"3361\">younger than 12 weeks old<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3365\" data-end=\"3406\">Has a <strong data-start=\"3373\" data-end=\"3403\">recurrent fever above 40\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3407\" data-end=\"3487\">Shows signs of <strong data-start=\"3424\" data-end=\"3439\">dehydration<\/strong> (<strong data-start=\"3441\" data-end=\"3483\">no tears, dry mouth, reduced urination<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3488\" data-end=\"3618\">Has a fever lasting <strong data-start=\"3510\" data-end=\"3562\">more than 24 hours in children under 2 years old<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"3566\" data-end=\"3615\">more than 3 days in children over 2 years old<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3619\" data-end=\"3680\"><strong data-start=\"3621\" data-end=\"3653\">Is not interested in playing<\/strong> when the fever subsides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"3682\" data-end=\"3685\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"3687\" data-end=\"3713\"><strong data-start=\"3691\" data-end=\"3711\">Fever Management<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3715\" data-end=\"3949\">Fever treatment aims to relieve discomfort rather than eliminate fever itself. If a child <strong data-start=\"3805\" data-end=\"3828\">older than 6 months<\/strong> has a <strong data-start=\"3835\" data-end=\"3849\">mild fever<\/strong> (up to <strong data-start=\"3857\" data-end=\"3867\">38.3\u00b0C<\/strong>) <strong data-start=\"3869\" data-end=\"3901\">without significant symptoms<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3903\" data-end=\"3932\">no treatment is necessary<\/strong>. In this case:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3950\" data-end=\"4088\">\n<li data-start=\"3950\" data-end=\"3977\">Keep the <strong data-start=\"3961\" data-end=\"3974\">room cool<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3978\" data-end=\"4020\">Dress the child in <strong data-start=\"3999\" data-end=\"4017\">light clothing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4021\" data-end=\"4064\">Ensure they <strong data-start=\"4035\" data-end=\"4061\">drink plenty of fluids<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4065\" data-end=\"4088\">Encourage <strong data-start=\"4077\" data-end=\"4085\">rest<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4090\" data-end=\"4171\">The <strong data-start=\"4094\" data-end=\"4120\">first-line medications<\/strong> recommended by most pediatric organizations are:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4172\" data-end=\"4279\">\n<li data-start=\"4172\" data-end=\"4242\"><strong data-start=\"4174\" data-end=\"4206\">Paracetamol (Acetaminophen):<\/strong> Apotel, Depon, Protalgon, Panadol<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4243\" data-end=\"4279\"><strong data-start=\"4245\" data-end=\"4259\">Ibuprofen:<\/strong> Algofren, Nurofen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4281\" data-end=\"4337\">For the <strong data-start=\"4289\" data-end=\"4334\">correct dosage, consult your pediatrician<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4339\" data-end=\"4506\">\ud83d\udeab <strong data-start=\"4342\" data-end=\"4394\">Never use aspirin as an antipyretic in children.<\/strong><br data-start=\"4394\" data-end=\"4397\" \/>\ud83d\udeab <strong data-start=\"4400\" data-end=\"4504\">If the child cannot take oral medication due to vomiting, paracetamol can be given as a suppository.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4508\" data-end=\"4652\">A <strong data-start=\"4510\" data-end=\"4543\">useful method to manage fever<\/strong> is applying <strong data-start=\"4556\" data-end=\"4575\">cool compresses<\/strong> (not ice-cold) on the forehead and limbs.
